If your jaws are not correctly aligned or do not meet, orthognathic surgery will help you reclaim the function of your mouth…

Jaw growth is a gradual process and, in some instances, the upper and lower jaws may grow at different rates. This can result in a host of problems that can affect chewing function, speech, long-term oral health and appearance. Orthognathic surgery is used to help surgically correct the alignment of the jaws to restore functionality to the mouth.

While orthodontics alone can correct bite problems where only the teeth are involved, orthognathic surgery may be required if the jaws also need repositioning…

Before Orthognathic surgery can commence, the teeth must first be straightened with orthodontic treatment. Once the teeth are straight, we can then proceed to corrective jaw surgery to effectively reposition misaligned jaws. This ensures that teeth and jaws are properly aligned for optimal function. This will also improve the appearance of the face by providing a balanced, structurally sound and functional jaw. On rare occasions, orthognathic surgery may be possible without orthodontics.

At your consultation speak to Dr Ian Wilson regarding your concerns and he will provide you with a comprehensive treatment plan.
